Should You Make Your Own Website?

Wednesday, February 22nd, 2012

When people want to set up a new website, they wonder whether they can build the site themselves or whether they should have a professional to do it. There are pros and cons to each, and some of those are discussed below.

If you know next to nothing about web design, it is important that you learn so you can make your own website. That can be time-consuming, but it can also help you figure out enough to put a good website together. If you can find good tutorials, setting up your own website might be a great idea for you–not to mention that this way is cheaper.

Paying to have a site set up for you can be difficult because it costs money, and there is no guarantee that the person you hire can realize your vision as well as you can. It does save time to hire someone, and they can add bells and whistles you don’t know how to add.

Think carefully about whether you should set up your own site; remember, it is your site no matter who designs it, so its success is up to you.

What Does Search Engine Optimisation Do?

Friday, February 17th, 2012

Search Engine Optimisation is the manipulating of certain aspects of a website to make it more visible when being searched online through search engines by key word. It is important to make the site more visible using multiple key words depending on the type of business. Most companies offer varying levels of search engine optimization services because different businesses need different things when it comes to optimization. It depends on how much competition is in the area, how many different types of the business are within a certain radius, and how visible the site is naturally by key word. An example would be a laundromat in a small town not needing as much SEO services because they are the only laundromat in town vs a laundromat in a major city where there is a different laundromat on each block. The laundromat in the major city has a lot more competition and would need a higher level of SEO services.

Does SEO Give a Web Site an Unfair Advantage?

Friday, December 16th, 2011

ProStores, seo, search engine optimization, prodryers ...The question of whether or not search engine optimization gives a web site an unfair advantage has been raised many times at our Arizona SEO company. The best answer would be simply that it does give a web site an advantage, but not an unfair advantage. Is it unfair when someone takes the initiative and trains hard to win in an athletic event? That takes time, dedication and effort. I don’t know anyone who would say that an athlete who trains long and hard to be the best at something has an “unfair advantage.” He or she would have an advantage, but it would be one that they worked hard to attain. SEO also requires time, dedication and hard work. Just like in the case of an athlete, positive results do not usually come quickly. High rankings as a result of search engine optimization are earned over time. Given the complexity of search engine ranking algorithms today, a web site has to become better than the web sites that they compete with. That is not an unfair advantage, but is definitely an earned advantage.

Small Business SEO Campaigns That Last

Tuesday, October 25th, 2011

If you have not yet tried using Google Adwords as a small business SEO method, then you are definitely missing out on this lucrative traffic source. Additionally, if your clients own physical storefronts, then their business has a real address where people can go in and do business.

If this is the case, then you are standing on a goldmine. You can, if you have not already, implement geo-targeting when you do your client’s optimizations and marketing. By targeting a specific group of people within a geographic region, you can taylor your message specifically to them.

This is very powerful, and it is a shame if you do not see that already. When you focus on a certain area of the globe on some of your web pages, for example, you have the ability to scoop up the traffic concerning those keywords directly related to the geographic area. This is most definitely a small business SEO technique you should be using.

I Learned How to Check Domain Name Availability from My Nephew

Friday, October 7th, 2011

I was looking online on how to check domain name availability. I was new to all of this. I wanted a website and then my nephew told me I needed to pick and register a domain name. He explained domain to me. He said it was like my Internet address. It could end up being similar to many other addresses, but it could not be exactly the same. Then he explained the 3 letters after the dot in the name and how one was for commercial, one was for education and another was for government and those were the big three. I was going for the dot com for commercial use. I just had a small business I wanted online so he told me to not worry too much about registering the other three letter extensions such as biz and the two letter TV. He said that the word or saying that is my domain would be kept on a computer server and converted into a numbered address in the background when someone clicks to go to my website. No one really ever sees those numbers. Then he brought up the website of a hosting company so I could search for the name ideas I had to see if they were in use.

Breaking the Rules of Web Design

Thursday, June 9th, 2011

Creative professionals have been working for years to develop certain strategies when it comes to good web design. There are a number of articles scattered across the internet that outline these rules in detail, and many of us heard them throughout our schooling or training. There are certain times, however, when it is okay, or even necessary, to ignore these rules.

One common rule is to have a consistent design. Web design portfolios often highlight layouts that follow this rule, but there are times when it is appropriate to break it. Using identical page layouts can get boring, and it is often the case that the pages will contain various content. Changing content is worthy of changing design, and some websites should reflect this.

Another rule that can be commonly seen in Online Portfolios is to include all important information within the top frames of the site. This encourages viewers to focus on the information immediately, and is a rule leftover from traditional newspaper marketing. The same techniques used for newspapers don’t really apply to websites, however, as many times users will start to scroll before they absorb any information in front of them.

Many design portfolios online avoid using too many different fonts, as this has been drilled into their heads by prominent creative professionals. The truth is, there are many occasions where it is appropriate to use a large combination of fonts. Not only does this represent a unique style that many clients will appreciate, but it can be a great way to showcase typography skills within design portfolios.

We’ve all heard it before, but it still holds true; rules are made to be broken. Not only will breaking some standards prove that you can think outside of the box, but it will help you stand out against other designers. This doesn’t mean that you should ignore the rules completely, in every situation, but it is a good idea to remain open to all of the potential of design.

App Development for Windows Mobile

Tuesday, May 31st, 2011

The branch of mobile app development for windows mobile gains a significant edge over the other platforms as the programming is quite similar to designing software for PCs and not much additional knowledge is required. Similar platforms for designing are used in both the areas, example Visual Studio. But, there are certain fundamental requirements for a person to be categorized as an efficient windows mobile app developer. Let us have a closer look at some of these.

Proper knowledge of Visual Basic is just inevitable, as it is the most elementary platform for this sphere of designing. One of the best things about it is that it supports maximum reusability and helps avoid unnecessary coding.

The Windows SDK (software development kit) is another essential requirement. It has efficiently written support manuals that go a long way in helping to understand the basics of the game. Sample applications also provide ample support.
